Khajuraho Temples
The little village of Khajuraho in Central India boasts the most perfect examples of Hindu architecture of the 10th century and the 11th centuries. The temples are equally famous, perhaps infamous, for the wide variety of erotic sculptures that adorn their walls. the stone temples are profusely decorated with thousand of examples of sculpture of the most sensuous kind portraying exquisite, skimpily clad female forms, lavishly adorned with Jewelery, enacting an ancient myth.

In February 1838, Captain T.S. burt of the bengal engineers hears from one of his palanquin bearers about 'the wonder of a place called Khajrao'. Burt, intrigued by the description, travels by palanquin from Chattarpur to Khajuraho to see for himself. His journal published in 1839 gives us an account of what he saw on that historic day and this is the first description of khajuraho. In 1940 the archaeological survey of India acquired the land and introduced a systematic conservation programme to protect and restore the temples.
